Another interesting conceptual video from Microsoft has surfaced recently that boldly pushes past the established boundaries of todays material science, engineering and fabrication. I always have mixed feeling about really abstract visions without tangible roadmaps, but if we allow ourselves to speculate a little, even as humble Sci-Fi enthusiasts, we may understand how we can change normally complex human machine interfaces into simpler interactions.
Here is the previous productivity video from 2011, one of the obvious differences is that most of the devices used in the older video were all rigid and translucent, examples of this type of material actually exist today (with flexibility) . The new video pushes past what I currently know about material design and manufacture to envision how we could interact with flexible opaque materials. I can only hope this actually exists in some university lab somewhere!
